From today, the 2011 PR Census is available online for all communication professionals based in Britain to fill in. The short questionnaire will allow the CIPR to build an up-to-date picture of exactly what the UK PR industry looks like in terms of size, value generated and the number of people it employs. It will also give the CIPR the chance to create a benchmark of salaries for future PR professionals and will look at the percentage of ethnic and sexual diversity in the PR work environment.
I think this is a great opportunity for anyone working in the PR industry to show exactly what work they do on a day-to-day basis and to prove to the sceptics that PR is a growing industry and is fast becoming a function every organisation needs! Unfortunately, unlike the Government Census there is no £1000 fine for not completing the questionnaire but that doesn’t mean this is any less important! It just means we have to do what PR does best and ensure the message of the PR Census and its importance gets around! We need to ensure everyone working in the PR industry one knows about the census and two fills it in!
The short questionnaire which is likely to take around ten minutes can be found here: 2011 PR Census from April 11 for a period of two weeks.
